Dankuni National Highway turned into a battleground as truck drivers staged a demonstration against the recently passed Indian Judicial Code. The drivers, in protest against the new law, blocked the road and set tires ablaze, causing a two-hour traffic standstill.
The situation escalated to a point where police intervention became necessary, resulting in the dispersal of protesters with batons. Twelve demonstrators were subsequently arrested, restoring normal traffic flow on the national highway. The protest stems from concerns among truck drivers about the stringent provisions, particularly in 'hit and run' cases, outlined in the newly enacted legislation.
